Weather and the food chain
Talk has focused on the corn and
soybean price increases, but it is important to realize the corn is an input in
the food production process especially for protein. Direct consumption is only a small part of the
food equation for grains. Chicken
processors like Tyson Foods will be hurt by higher input costs. Meat packers will also be negatively
affected. As put by one, “high priced corn means high priced meat at some point
in the future.” The cost of protein is going up.
